Why do Vedic timings differ between cities?
Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal are calculated by dividing the day from local sunrise to local sunset into eight parts. Because sunrise and sunset depend on a city's exact latitude and longitude, these timings are different in every city โ even within the same time zone. Mumbai and Delhi share IST, yet their sunrise can differ by 30โ40 minutes, so their Rahu Kaal differs too.
Most astrology apps ignore this and show generic Indian Standard Time values. CosmosPandit computes everything from real astronomical positions for your precise location โ which is why an Indian family in Dubai, London or Toronto gets accurate timings instead of an IST approximation. Compare any two cities above to see the difference for yourself.
What this tool compares
For each city you pick, CosmosPandit shows today's Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal (the inauspicious windows), the sunrise and sunset, and the day's Tithi and Nakshatra, each in that city's own local clock time. The side-by-side view makes the gap obvious, for example how much earlier or later Rahu Kaal begins in one city versus the other.
Who is this for?
It is built for the global Indian diaspora and for anyone planning across cities, a wedding muhurat for relatives abroad, a call or a signing between two time zones, or simply checking a parent's timings back home. Because everything is computed from real coordinates, the comparison is accurate whether the cities share a time zone (Mumbai vs Delhi) or sit continents apart (Toronto vs Chennai).
Frequently asked questions
Why is Rahu Kaal different in two cities in the same country? Because it depends on local sunrise, which shifts with longitude. Even within India, sunrise can differ by 30 to 40 minutes east to west, so Rahu Kaal differs too.
Can I compare an Indian city with one abroad? Yes, any two of 68,000+ cities worldwide. Each city's timings are shown in its own local time, so there is no time-zone confusion.
Is the comparison live for today? Yes, timings are computed for the current day from real astronomical positions, not pre-stored tables.
